Statement
Most of my work explores how the human figure finds balance in the body in actions such as standing, jumping or swimming. I work as a personal trainer at club down the street from my studio where I am repeatedly demonstrating exercises and I also get to observe various movement patterns. When I return to the studio I often find myself unwinding memories of the day in a random fashion, and I channel these memories as influences upon my paintings and drawings. Without feeling obligated to articulate in my artworks which persons from my day performed a particular gesture or wore particular clothing, I focus on the impressions of a spine extending or flexing and the body moving in space. My palette is quiet. I'm trained as a sculptor and I recycle clay to make my paints, combining it with charcoal, chalk, pencil and ink.
